Advanced architectural solutions with modern non-settling log.67

Non-settling log

The non-settling engineered log is latest technological innovation in the prefabricated log kit home industry. It could be considered as the greatest advance in log construction revolutionizing the capabilities for what can be done with log homes. The non-settling engineered log not only enables execution of very sleek modern designs, novel architectural and structural solutions in engineered log homes but also expands the appeal of wooden living to new markets and new generations.

The non-settling log is an engineered wood product consisting of layers of kiln-dried dimension lumber (usually three, five, seven or nine) oriented at right angles to one another followed by adhesive application, panel lay-up, and assembly pressing. By using kiln dried lumber and gluing layers of wood at right angles, the engineered log is formed with excellent structural rigidity and non-settling quality. Non-settling logs are made of spruce or pine.

With the non-settling engineered log, no allowance needs to be made for settling as with conventional log homes. There is no need for post-construction adjustment of screw jacks. Windows and doors can be attached to the log frame without additional framing requirements. Roofing structures, wall framing, and floor systems can be built with commonly practiced construction techniques with no special procedures making the construction process smooth, fast and easy compared to conventional log home building. Engineered logs have several advantages over traditional solid wood logs. They are often more uniform in shape and size, and they are less prone to cracking, splitting, and warping.

The type of engineered log we use made with cross lamination to provide the structural strength and non-settling property is very unique and our specialty in the log kit industry

Log Corners

Pluspuu houses are available with the mitred corner joints. The mitred corner is a signature design specialty of Pluspuu homes. We have mastered this technique over the years and hundreds of projects. The logs are inter-connected using mitred dovetail joints. With mitred corner joints, the log layers are always aligned, eliminating the need for traditional overlapping joints. In addition to its beautiful appearance and appeal, it also offers the best sealing performance for joins.

The mitred corner construction with its narrow log seams enables very clean straight lines giving the homes a modern, sleek and elegant appearance. This design style makes it possible to build modern houses suitable for urban environments as well as natural surroundings.

Which log diameter?

6” x 8” (134×195 mm) logs are sufficient for a recreational houses, cabins, sauna buildings that will be left unheated or only occasionally heated during the winter as well as for sauna buildings. 8”x8” (202×195 mm) logs are used for houses that are kept heated all year round.
